What's on in Canberra in March

It's the last month of summer and Canberra is finishing the season in style with festivals to visit, along with great exhibitions and activities.

The Summerside Festival runs for the entire month of February with a range of activities and events on the program, such as live music, twilight horse riding tours, wine and food tasting, masterclasses and more.

The National Multicultural Festival is now in its 20th year and will be held on the weekend of 12 to 14 February in Canberra city centre - only a short walk from Novotel Canberra.

The Royal Australian Mint is having an open day on Saturday 13 February 2016 from 8.30 am - 4.00 pm to celebrate the 50th anniversary of decimal currency.

See famous artworks from the influential landscape painter and portrait artist Tom Roberts at the National Gallery of Australia. Explore the world of Spiders with this new exhibition showing at Questacon.

Experience 300 years of Chinese culture and tradition from two of the world’s great libraries with the Celestial Empire exhibition at the National Library of Australia.  Tickets to Celestial Empire are free, however, bookings are essential. See rare, early Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander objects from the British Museum at the Encounters exhibition at the National Museum of Australia.  This exhibition has free entry, although booking online is recommended.

To make the most of the outdoors, families can enjoy some great playgrounds close to the city such as the amazing Pod Playground at the National Arboretum Canberra. Boundless - The Centenary of Canberra National Playground is Canberra's first all abilities playground located on the north eastern side of Lake Burley Griffin. John Knight Park at Belconnen's Lake Ginninderra has two play areas as well as picnic areas. There are often ducks and swans to be seen and for those people who enjoy walking or cycling, there is a 7km (approx) pathway that circles the Lake.  Or, get out and about for a cycle - Canberra is home to a great network of bicycle paths and bikes are available for hire. See VisitCanberra for more information.
